Recently I have been researching about oil change for my car, I came across fully synthetic engine oil from Costco for $24.99 (10 gallons) and then I started researching about this Kirkland oil.
To my surprise it met all the oil standards for a vehicle including the latest DEXOS 2.
And until now I have been using Mobil1 0W20 from my local mechanic which costed me about $35 for 5 gallons.
I wondered why Kirkland oil is cheap when compared to the branded oil.
First, Kirkland oil is made by Warren distributions who are in this industry starting 1922.
Second, Warren distributions are the same guy who make oil for Amazon and Walmart. Walmart Super tech is considered very good.
Third, Comparing with Mobile 1 (which is considered as gold standard) Super tech was able to match or beat in cold flow and in normal flow. Lookup for Project farm in youtube for the comparison.
Since super tech and Kirkland are same oil. I believe for a regular car you cannot go wrong with Kirkland fully synthetic oil.
I got it $21.99 with $3 off in the warehouse, which would be close to $11 for a fully synthetic oil which would roughly save $25 for each oil change.
In addition to cheap quality gas, this would be another perk for being a Costco member.
Hopefully the cost remains the same as the oil is golden.
Happy Saving!
